Press Forward Minnesota announced it has awarded more than $500,000 to five Minnesota public media organizations through its Save the Signal Minnesota Fund. The recipients are KKWE/89.9 (White Earth), KOJB/90.1 (Cass Lake), Lakeland PBS (KAWE/9 Bemidji), PBS North (WDSE/8 Duluth), and Pioneer PBS (KWCM/10 Appleton). The exact amount awarded to each organization was not specified.
Wisconsin Public Radio, WUWM/89.7 (Milwaukee), and WXPR/91.7 (Rhinelander) have formed the Wisconsin News Collaborative to share reporting. The move comes a month after WUWM began carrying WPR’s “Wisconsin Today.” WUWM also posted an explainer sorting out many of the public media organizations in Wisconsin.
CBC News announced that it will add news bureaus covering Flin Flon and the Selkirk/Interlake region of Manitoba, and also add journalists to the existing one-person bureaus in Brandon and Steinbach.
Minnesota Public Radio News host Angela Davis has returned to the air, announcing that she is cancer-free. Davis had been off the air since August. Listen to her announcement at the beginning of the Jan. 12 show.
Tim Allen has returned to Audacy’s “105.7 The Fan” (W289CB and WSSP/1250 Milwaukee). Allen will host the new “Brewers Hot Stove Show” at 5 p.m. weekdays through March 25, as well as a post-game show.
Audacy’s “Mix 105.1” (WMHX Waunakee-Madison) is now simulcasting the “Elizabeth & Radar” morning show from sister station WMYX/99.1 (Milwaukee), which RadioInsight notes replaces the syndicated “Jubal Show.”
Nexstar CBS affiliate KELO-TV/11 (Sioux Falls) promoted Anna Peters to director of news and multimedia content. Peters has been with KELO-TV for 25 years and was previously the executive producer.
Nathan Brennan has returned to Gray CBS affiliate KOLN/KGIN 10/11 (Lincoln/Grand Island) as 5, 6, and 10 p.m. co-anchor.
Grant Jones has joined Gray NBC affiliate KTTC/10 (Rochester) as weekend anchor.
Lucas Warren has joined Nexstar NBC affiliate WHO-DT/13 (Des Moines) as a multimedia journalist.
Scripps has named Charlie Grisham the new general manager and director of sales at CBS affiliate KMTV/3 (Omaha), moving from the GM role at a station in Indianapolis that Scripps is selling. Grisham started his career working at WOW/590 and KFAB/1110 while attending Creighton University.
Radio broadcaster Bob Meyer has died at 70. Meyer hosted the morning show at WDLB/1450 (Marshfield) for 30 years and led the Goetz Farm Radio Network. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2023.
Chuck Ramsay, an anchor at WBAY-TV/2 (Green Bay) for 37 years, has died at 91. Ramsay’s obituary says he started at WBAY as sports director in 1965 and became news anchor in 1971. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2003.
In a notable development just outside the Upper Midwest, Audacy announced that “The Score” (WSCR/670 Chicago) will add an FM simulcast on the current WBMX/104.3 (Chicago) starting Feb. 2. The change is the latest in a years-long series of AM-to-FM moves by Audacy that has not reached a certain major Upper Midwest market.
