Oshkosh is Latest City to Get Wisconsin Liberal Talk Format

Posted on October 6, 2022 by Jon Ellis

Civic Media closed on its purchase of two stations in the Oshkosh area on Monday, Oct. 3, and has launched its Liberal Talk lineup on the stations.

A news release says WISS/1100 (Berlin) and W252DR/98.3 (Oshkosh) are now “Oshkosh Air Support: News, Talk, Brewers.”

W252DR’s 250-Watt signal reaches the Oshkosh area while WISS is a daytime-only station, using 1.6kW for the two hours after sunrise and before sunset and 2.5kW during the midday hours.

Civic Media has been on a buying spree since its first station purchase in July and has also launched a Liberal Talk lineup on AM stations and FM translators in Wausau, Wisconsin Rapids, Richland Center, and Amery, joining stations in Madison and Milwaukee. More Liberal talkers are expected in Green Bay, Appleton, and Hayward.

“Hometown radio that centers local communities is the foundation of our model,” said Sage Weil, CEO of Civic Media, said in a news release. “We believe that radio has a crucial role to play in our state by focusing our attention on what is happening here at home, where local and regional issues have an out-sized impact on our lives.”

Weil is Civic Media’s majority owner while Mike Crute, a minority owner, serves as president. Crute hosts the “Devil’s Advocates Radio Show” heard on many of the stations.

The company has also continued to run FM Country formats in several markets.
