Leighton Expands to Alexandria (Updated with Price)

Posted on September 23, 2019 by Jon Ellis

Leighton Enterprises is adding to its reach in western Minnesota with the purchase of three Alexandria radio stations.

Leighton is buying KXRA/1490 (Alexandria), KXRA-FM/92.3 (Alexandria), and KXRZ/99.3 (Alexandria) from Paradis Broadcasting, according to a news story posted on KXRA’s website. KXRA is also relayed on FM translators K262AT/100.3 (Alexandria) and K289CL/105.7 (Glenwood).

The purchase price is $3.4 million, according to an asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC on Sept. 27. Separately, Leighton will pay Dolora Paradis $240,000 for the KXRA studio building in Alexandria.

KXRA reported that current owner Brett Paradis will continue as general manager, and other employees will remain as well.

KXRA carries a News/Talk format, while “KX92” carries Classic Rock and “Z99” carries Hot Adult Contemporary.

The group competes with Hubbard Radio’s two FM stations in Alexandria.

The Alexandria group is a natural addition for St. Cloud-based Leighton Enterprises, which also has groups in the adjacent St. Cloud and Fergus Falls areas, in addition to Detroit Lakes, Grand Forks, and Winona.
