Ops Manager Buys Marks Radio Stations in Montana, North Dakota

Posted on February 11, 2024February 11, 2024 by Jon Ellis

A company owned by the operations manager for Marks Broadcasting’s stations in Glendive, Montana, is buying the company’s radio stations in Montana and North Dakota.

An asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC indicates Andrew Sturlaugson’s P&A Media LLC is buying eight FM stations and three AM stations from several companies owned by the Estate of Stephen A. Marks for $850,000. The application indicates Andrew Sturlaugson holds 100% of the assets and votes in the company.

Included are:

  • Dickinson, ND: KXDI/93.9 (Belfield) and KQLZ/95.7 (New England)
  • Forsyth, MT: KIKC/1250 and KIKC-FM/101.3
  • Glendive, MT: KXGN/1400 and KDZN/96.5
  • Miles City, MT: KMTA/1050 and KYUS/92.3
  • Williston, ND: KGCX/93.1 (Sidney, MT), KXWI/98.5, and KDSR/101.1

The sale follows the 2022 death of Stephen A. Marks. His TV and radio stations in Michigan were sold to Morgan Murphy Media while his radio stations in Wisconsin were sold to Civic Media.

The latest sale will split the radio stations from Marks’ two remaining TV stations, KXGN-TV/5.1 (Glendive, MT) and KYUS-TV/3.1 (Miles City, MT). KXGN-TV carries NBC and CBS with relays of Billings newscasts, while KYUS-TV operates as a satellite of Cowles NBC affiliate KULR/8.1 (Billings). No applications have been filed to transfer the TV stations’ licenses as of Feb. 11.

The Marks companies involved in the sale to P&A Media include Custer County Community Broadcasting, Dickinson Belfield Broadcasting, Glendive Broadcasting, Magic Air Communications Miles City, Forsyth Broadcasting, Sidney Community Broadcasting, and Williston Community Broadcasting Corporation.
