Weekly Log: KARE Sweeps Major Emmy Categories

Posted on October 25, 2024October 24, 2024 by Jon Ellis

KTIV/4.1 (Sioux City) reports that longtime sports anchor Brad Pautsch has died after battling cancer for the past several years. Pautsch, 58, grew up in the northwestern Iowa town of Early and had been with KTIV since 1990, covering everything from local sports to a Super Bowl and NFL and NBA Drafts.

Tegna NBC affiliate KARE 11 (Minneapolis) swept the major categories in this year’s Upper Midwest Emmy Awards. KARE was presented with Emmys for Overall Excellence, News Excellence, and both daytime and evening newscasts in large markets. Other best newscast winners included Nexstar CBS affiliate KELO-TV/11 (Sioux Falls), Gray NBC affiliate KTTC/10 (Rochester), Forum ABC affiliate WDAY-TV/6 (Fargo), and Gray NBC affiliate KTIV/4 (Sioux City).

Scott Robert Shaw has retired from WIZM/1410 (La Crosse) and Mid-West Family Broadcasting after 35 years with the group. La Crosse Mayor Mitch Reynolds declared a day in Shaw’s honor at his retirement party.

Anchor/reporter Robb Coles has departed Gray NBC/CBS affiliate KBJR/6 (Superior-Duluth) for a new TV job in Nashville.

TV Technology reports that the LG Channels platform is adding local news feeds from stations owned by Allen Media, FOX, Scripps, and Sinclair.
