The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.
Iowa
KLOX/90.9 (Creston), owned by West Des Moines-based St. Gabriel Communications, has returned a construction permit to upgrade from 500 Watts to 100kW/101m. The following day, the station applied for 100kW/189m from a new site southwest of Creston. The station also had several CP’s to upgrade to 100kW under previous ownership. (This item has been updated to reflect the new application.)
The FCC has approved Coloff Media’s purchase of KMAQ-FM/95.1 (Maquoketa), KMAQ/1320 (Maquoketa), and KMAQ translator K223DA/92.5 (Bellevue) from Dennis Voy.
Michigan
Michigan Technological University’s WMTU-FM/91.9 (Houghton) resumed full operations on Nov. 1 after a roof replacement project was completed.
Nebraska
The Nebraska Rural Radio Association’s KRVN/880 (Lexington) requested special temporary authority to use 12.5kW non-directional at night, rather than its licensed 50kW directional nighttime, while repairs are made to the directional antenna controller. It continues to use 50kW non-directional during the day.
The Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Commission applied to modify the construction permit for future station KUNE-FM/88.7 (Columbus) to move to a tower about 16 miles northwest of Columbus, using 4.4kW at 203m (class C3). The station is facing a March 1, 2025, deadline to begin broadcasting.
Christian Media Incorporated’s KCMI/97.1 (Terrytown) returned to full power of 100kW on Oct. 31. A previous filing in October had said that KCMI was in the process of installing a new transmitter.
North Dakota
Bakken Beacon Media’s K224FJ/92.7 (Tioga), which relays KTGO/1090 (Tioga), returned to the air on Nov. 1. It had been off the air since Aug. 14 due to technical issues.
Wisconsin
The Salvation Poem Foundation’s WEQL/104.9 (La Crosse) notified the FCC that it resumed full-power operation on Sept. 10.
The FCC has approved The Family Radio Network’s purchase of WJTI/1460 (West Allis) and W273DQ/102.5 (Milwaukee) from El Sol Broadcasting.
