FCC Monitor: Iowa FM Upgrade, UP TV Upgrade Granted

Posted on November 18, 2024November 18, 2024 by Jon Ellis

The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.

Iowa

The FCC granted Eldora Broadcasting’s KDAO-FM/92.9 (Eldora) an upgrade from 6kW to 13.5kW, with its antenna height remaining at 100 meters above average terrain. Its class will change from A to C3. As previously reported here, KDAO-FM recently moved from 99.5.

Michigan

The FCC approved a power increase for Morgan Murphy Media/Queen Bee’s Knees LLC’s WBUP/10 (Ishpeming) from 9kW to 25kW.

WRVM, Incorporated’s W255CB/98.9 (Powers) has moved to 98.7 as W254DY and increased power to 99 Watts from a new tower site south of town.

Minnesota

R.R. Larson & Associates LLC closed on its purchase of KYMN/1080 and K236CO/95.1 (Northfield) from Jeff Johnson’s Northfield Media on Nov. 12.

Nebraska

The FCC has granted a change to the construction permit for future Nebraska Public Media station KUNE-FM/88.7 (Columbus) to move to a tower about 16 miles northwest of Columbus, using 4.4kW at 203m (class C3). The station is facing a March 1, 2025, deadline to begin broadcasting.

North Dakota

Radio Bismarck Mandan’s KKBO/105.9 (Flasher) and KXRV/107.5 (Cannon Ball) both requested special temporary authority to operate at reduced power. The stations’ applications state: “During an engineering compliance review, Licensee determined that neither KKBO nor KXRV are operating at licensed parameters. Both stations appeared to be operating at reduced power. Licensee is working to engage engineers to determine the cause of the power reduction and assess what steps are necessary to resume licensed operations, order the necessary parts, and complete the work.”

South Dakota

South Dakota School of Mines & Technology’s KTEQ-FM/91.3 (Rapid City) went off the air Nov. 2 due to an apparent antenna issue.

Wisconsin

The FCC has dismissed an application from Family Worship Center Church’s WIWN/68.1 (Fond du Lac-Milwaukee) to move from RF channel 5 to RF 7. The station, which currently transmits from Milwaukee, had proposed a distributed transmission system with transmitters in Milwaukee and Fond du Lac. The reason for the dismissal is not immediately known. The application had been filed by a previous owner.
