Minnesota Public Radio announced that Tom Crann is moving from the News network to the Classical service. Crann currently hosts “All Things Considered” on MPR News and will take over the 3 to 7 p.m. shift on YourClassical MPR after Steve Staruch moves to a part-time role. Crann originally started at MPR in 1995 as a host on national service Classical24.
A belated note that two former hosts at KQRS/92.5 have moved to other Cumulus Media stations following KQ’s relaunch earlier this month. Lisa Miller is now hosting afternoons on “Love 105” while Shannon Knight is now hosting overnights on “93X.” Miller also continues to be listed as a weekend host on KQRS.
Longtime Eau Claire radio broadcaster Mike Sullivan has died of leukemia at 75. Sullivan is best known as morning co-host at “Z100” (WBIZ-FM/100.7) in the 1980s and `90s, and also did play-by-play for thousands of games. “Even if he had to use an entire roll of masking tape and crawl under bleachers to string a power cord where no power cord had ever gone before, nothing stopped him getting on the air,” his obituary recalls. In lieu of flowers, Sullivan’s family has launched a GoFundMe to cover his remaining medical expenses.
Longtime Nebraska radio broadcaster Jim Lambley has died at the age of 74. Lambley started at his hometown radio station of KBRB/1400 (Ainsworth) when he was still in high school in the late 1960s. He and his wife Deneen later purchased KSDZ/95.5 (Gordon) and built KDJL/99.5 (Kilgore-Valentine). “Jim took his broadcast license seriously and was a dedicated public advocate and watchdog for the people,” his obituary states. “He wasn’t afraid to take on any issue or bring any subject to light – no matter the cost.”
