Local Sports Talk in Milwaukee Rises to 32 Hours Per Day

Posted on September 18, 2025September 18, 2025 by Jon Ellis

The amount of local Sports Talk on Milwaukee stations will rise to 32 hours per day with Audacy’s announcement of new shows on “The Fan.”

“The Fan” is heard on WSSP/1250 and W289CB/105.7 (Milwaukee). Beginning Monday, Sept. 22, Trevor Thomas and Josh Albrecht will co-host “Inside Wisconsin Sports” from 6 to 9 a.m. followed by John Kuhn and Ramie Makhlouf with “Nine2Noon.”

Mason Crosby will move to the 12 to 2 p.m. slot while “Wisconsin Sports Daily” with Steve “Sparky” Fifer will continue from 2 to 5 p.m.

The move comes three years after WSSP dropped most local programming amid national cutbacks. Crosby’s show launched a year ago when 105.7 returned to a simulcast with WSSP.

Milwaukee is in an unusual situation of having four All-Sports stations. WSSP’s competitors include Good Karma’s “94.5 ESPN” (WKTI) and iHeart’s “97.3 The Game” (WRNW) and “FOX Sports 920” (WOKY).

The additions at “The Fan” mean Milwaukee listeners will have 32 hours of local Sports Talk to choose from each weekday, with three options for much of the day:

  • WSSP/The Fan: 11 hours (6 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • WKTI/94.5 ESPN: 9 hours (7 a.m. to Noon and 2 to 6 p.m.)
  • WRNW/97.3 The Game: 12 hours (6 a.m. to 6 p.m., syndicated statewide)

(By comparison, Minneapolis has 14 hours of local Sports Talk per day, most of them on one station.)

In a news release, Jason Bjorson, Audacy’s Senior VP and Milwaukee Market Manager, said, “As we celebrate the station’s 20th anniversary, we wanted to match our listeners’ passion by assembling the dream team here at The Fan.”

“With legendary names and two former Green Bay Packers players on our roster, we are going full throttle. We’re excited to bring our fans the best talent in the market and give them the most entertaining sports coverage Wisconsin has to offer,” Bjorson said.
