Duluth CBS Affiliate to Add 5:00 Newscast

Posted on January 30, 2020 by Jon Ellis

Quincy Media CBS affiliate “CBS 3 Duluth” (KBJR-DT2/6.2 Superior) has announced plans to add a 5 p.m. newscast.

The March 23 addition of “Live at 5” will mark the first time Duluth has had three competing 5 p.m. newscasts since KBJR took over former CBS affiliate KDLH in 2005. KBJR’s primary NBC channel and Hubbard ABC affiliate WDIO/10.1 already have long-established newscasts in the timeslot.

“CBS 3” already carries newscasts from 5 to 7 a.m. and at 6 and 10 p.m., competing with KBJR’s main channel and WDIO in the timeslots. “Live at 5” will be anchored by CBS 3’s existing 6 p.m. anchor team.

The Quincy NBC and CBS affiliates operate from separate studios in the same building, with a shared newsroom. The station says in the article announcing the new newscast that it is also adding two staff members.
