Tri-County Broadcasting has updated the playlist on one of its St. Cloud-market stations to replace Adult Standards with a broad mix of Classic Hits from the 1960s to the 1980s.
WMIN/1010 (Sauk Rapids), which is relayed on W266DT/101.1 and the HD3 signal of WHMH/101.7, remains known as “Uptown 1010.” New imaging positions the playlist as “Nostalgia refreshed” and “from the Beatles to The Boss.”
The updated playlist continues to use the previous format’s Big Band “Uptown 1010” weather jingle, as well as FOX News updates at the bottom of the hour.
The change happened in April, according to an unsourced update to the WMIN Wikipedia page.
WMIN had carried a mix of Big Band, Swing, and Soft Oldies since signing on in 2009, a time when many Nostalgia stations were transitioning away from traditional standards.
While the change removed one of the few remaining stations playing Big Band and Swing, it also revived a lot of Oldies and Classic Hits that have not been played in the market in decades. St. Cloud’s incumbent Classic Hits format, Townsquare Media’s “96.7 The River” (KZRV Sartell-St. Cloud), mostly plays songs from the 1980s to 2000s with a few additional selections from the `70s.
WMIN is operated alongside several other stations including Album Rock-formatted “The Goat” (WXYG/540 Sauk Rapids-St. Cloud), which is also relayed on two FM translators and an HD subchannel. Tri-County’s other formats include Hard Rock, Alternative, Classic Country, and Sports.
