“101.5 The Emoji” Comes to Southern Minnesota

Posted on May 18, 2020 by Jon Ellis

KEMJ/101.5 (St. James) has switched to Hot Adult Contemporary as “The Emoji,” replacing a decades-old Country format.

The change came at 9 a.m. Monday after a weekend of stunting with a loop of “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport,” the same stunt used on sister station KFMC/106.5 (Fairmont) a few years ago. KEMJ’s main coverage area also includes Fairmont.

KEMJ was formerly KRRW. In April, the former KHRS/105.9 (Winthrop-New Ulm) adopted the KRRW callsign with a Classic Country format, which KEMJ had been simulcasting.

“Emoji” competes with Alpha Media’s “Mix 99.1” (KEEZ Mankato).

KEMJ is owned by Subarctic Media and is being operated alongside City of Lakes Media’s two Fairmont stations. The companies have related ownership.
