Numerous stations have recently informed the FCC that they are operating at reduced power, with many citing winter weather conditions (for purposes of this report, the FM power levels listed are effective radiated power):
Educational Media Foundation “K-Love” station WLKU/98.9 (Rock Island-Quad Cities) is operating at an unspecified reduced power after its transmitter suffered significant damage.
Results Broadcasting’s WOBE/100.7 (Crystal Falls-Iron Mountain, MI) is transmitting at reduced power from a temporary antenna after a severe ice storm led to a transmission line burnout. WOBE normally uses 75kW/199m above average terrain but is currently using 2kW/141m.
WGGL/91.1 (Houghton, MI) has been operating at 40 percent of its usual 100kW since Feb. 3 due to technical and weather conditions. WGGL is owned by Minnesota Public Radio but programmed separately from the Minnesota networks.
MPR News station KNBJ/91.3 (Bemidji, MN) has been operating at about 13kW ERP, which is about 20 percent of its normal power, since Feb. 10 due to technical and weather conditions.
Classical MPR station KSJR/90.1 (Collegeville-St. Cloud) has been operating at half of its usual 100kW since Feb. 3 due to technical and weather conditions.
Townsquare Media’s WEBC/560 (Duluth) is transmitting at about 80 percent of its usual daytime power of 5kW. The station says there is heavy snow and ice at its rural Superior antenna field, but the heavy snow is preventing the engineer from reaching the tuning units. WEBC continues to broadcast with 5kW at night, when it uses a different antenna pattern.
Real Presence Radio’s KSJP/88.9 (Ipswich-Aberdeen, SD) is operating with about half of its usual 3.3kW due to a transmitter malfunction.
