New FM Signal Signing On in St. Cloud, City’s 9th Commercial Translator

Posted on March 21, 2021 by Jon Ellis

Townsquare Media is signing on a new FM signal in St. Cloud, the ninth commercial FM translator in the city.

New FM translator W230DG/93.9 (Waite Park-St. Cloud) recently requested program test authority. The 250-Watt signal was granted during the AM revitalization window to relay “Granite City Sports 1390” (KXSS).

KXSS, which carries the Fan Network and CBS Sports Radio, competes with Tri-County Broadcasting ESPN affiliate WBHR/660 (Sauk Rapids-St. Cloud). WBHR signed on FM translator W239CU/95.7 last year.

The St. Cloud FM dial is unusually packed for a small market with eight FM translators relaying AM stations, two translators relaying HD subchannels, three low-power FM signals, and fringe signals from the Twin Cities and other central Minnesota communities filling in spots between the market’s full-power FM stations.
