Northwestern Media, the Upper Midwest’s largest regional Christian broadcaster, is expanding westward with the purchase of two stations in the Rapid City market.
An asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC on Friday says Northwestern is buying KLMP/88.3 (Rapid City) and KSLT/107.1 (Spearfish-Rapid City) from Bethesda Christian Broadcasting for $249,000. The deal also includes KSLT satellites KSLP/90.3 (Pierre) and KSLS/90.7 (Dickinson, ND) and boosters and translators in Rapid City and Newcastle, WY.
Notably, the deal does not include Bethesda’s KTPT/97.9 (Rapid City). The asset purchase agreement contemplates the possibility that KTPT may be sold to another party before the KLMP/KSLT sale closes.
Northwestern Media is operated by the University of Northwestern-St. Paul, which began providing consulting services to KLMP and KSLT in September.
KLMP and KSLT fit in with Northwestern’s existing stations, which all carry either Adult Contemporary Christian or teaching and preaching from the “Faith Radio Network.” Its other markets include duos in Sioux Falls and Fargo and a standalone “Faith Radio” station in Bismarck.
KTPT runs a Contemporary Worship format as “The Breeze.”
KTPT and KSLT are both licensed as commercial stations but operate as non-profits.
The three stations transmit from Terry Peak near Lead, with KTPT and KSLT achieving some of the largest FM coverage areas in the Upper Midwest with near-maximized Class C facilities at 100kW/579m. KLMP broadcasts with 63kW/522m.
