A central Nebraska radio station is poised to switch to Spanish-language Christian programming following its transfer from one religious broadcaster to another.
KMMJ/750 and K282BR/104.3 (Grand Island) are going from The Praise Network to My Bridge Radio. According to an asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC, My Bridge Radio is buying K282BR for $35,000 and receiving KMMJ as a gift.
My Bridge announced Monday that it plans to launch a Spanish Christian format on KMMJ and K282BR:
The U.S. Census Bureau’s 2018 American Community Survey says about 27 percent of the population of Hall County, where Grand Island is located, is Hispanic.
My Bridge Radio operates a Contemporary Christian network reaching much of the state, which is based at KROA/95.7 (Grand Island).
KMMJ had been carrying Southern Gospel and Christian teaching and preaching programs. Posts on its Facebook page say KMMJ ended the format at the end of May after its previous Sharathon raised only 48% of its goal.
KMMJ is a 10.5kW daytimer reaching central Nebraska and north-central Kansas. K282BR transmits with 250 Watts from a tower just east of Grand Island.
This is actually a reunion for KMMJ and KROA, which were co-owned for a few years beginning in 2006. In 2008, My Bridge predecessor Mission Nebraska donated KMMJ to The Praise Network as KROA moved to its current format.
The Praise Network also operates a network of four stations in northeastern Nebraska and southwestern South Dakota known as “Good News Radio,” as well as two separate stations in Kansas.
