The following are updates to stories previously reported here and other recent FCC filings and actions.
Michigan
ABC/NBC affiliate WGTQ/8 (Sault Ste. Marie) has completed an upgrade from 15kW to 60kW.
Sovereign Communications submitted another request for extension of special temporary authority for WYSS/99.5 (Sault Ste. Marie) and WMKD/105.5 (Pickford-Sault Ste. Marie), which have been operating at reduced power since a 2018 tower collapse. The filings repeat that the station it is continuing to work through the insurance claims process. The stations are both licensed for 100kW; WYSS is temporarily using 1.3kW and and WMKD is using 700 Watts.
Minnesota
SagamoreHill of Minneapolis’ KMWE-LD/17 (St. Cloud) is now at its third transmitter site in as many months, informing the FCC that the station’s construction permit for a facility at a residence in the northwestern Twin Cities suburb of Corcoran has been constructed as authorized in the underlying construction permit. The 7.5kW facility is permitted to broadcast with a directional pattern slightly overlapping with its previous coverage area, as required when LPTV stations change transmitter sites. The application for a license to cover the new facility came three days after the FCC granted the permit.
Q Media Properties closed on its purchase of KBEK/95.5 (Mora) from Jay Mankie and Mary Lodin on Oct. 8. Q Media has been operating the station since last November.
Nebraska
The FCC approved a construction permit for Independent Omaha Radio Project to move its KIOR-LP (Omaha) from 98.1 to 91.9 and relocate its transmitter site to the west, changing from its current 100W/11m to 25W/59m.
North Dakota
The FCC approved license renewal for Fort Berthold Communications Enterprises’ KMHA/91.3 (Four Bears) after reaching a consent decree over concerns about the station’s online public inspection file.
South Dakota
The FCC denied a request to extend the construction deadline for low-power TV station K24LL-D (Wasta).
Wisconsin
The University of Northwestern-St. Paul’s W230AN/93.9 (Hayward) has completed an upgrade from 50 to 250 Watts. W230AN relays “Life 97-3” (KDNW Duluth).
