FCC Monitor: Quad Cities FM Translator to Relay iHeart Station

Posted on April 17, 2022 by Jon Ellis

The following are updates to stories previously reported here and other recent FCC filings and actions:

Iowa

Radio by Grace’s K296GZ/107.1 (Muscatine), which is currently licensed to transmit with 10W from Milan, IL, applied to move its transmitter to a tower along I-280 in Davenport with 250W. The new facility would provide a strong signal to most of the Quad Cities area. The application specifies that it would carry the HD3 channel of iHeartMedia’s WLLR-FM/103.7 (Davenport).

Edge Spectrum returned the construction permit for unbuilt low-power TV station K27MI-D (Mason City). The permittee had previously sought tolling of the Jan. 10, 2022 construction deadline.

Michigan

The FCC approved the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community’s purchase of WMQT/107.7 (Ishpeming-Marquette), WZAM/970 (Ishpeming-Marquette), and two FM translators from Taconite Broadcasting.

FideliTV returned the construction permit for unbuilt low-power TV station W16EF-D (Marquette). The permittee had previously sought tolling of the Jan. 10, 2022 construction deadline.

Minnesota

The University of Northwestern-St. Paul was granted a new station on 88.1 in Grand Rapids, which will use 24kW/44m (class C3).

The FCC granted Salvation Poem Foundation a new station on 88.3 in Harmony, which will use 10kW/64m (class C3)

Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting was granted a new station on 89.5 in Hutchinson, which will use 130W/90m (class A). The FCC also dismissed We Have This Hope Christian Radio’s application for the same frequency in nearby Brownton.

Edge Spectrum returned the construction permits for unbuilt low-power TV stations K20OP-D and K21KZ-D (Duluth). The permittee had previously sought tolling of the Jan. 10, 2022 construction deadlines.

Nebraska

Theatre Organ Preservation of Nebraska applied to modify the construction permit for KEZL/89.7 (Culbertson) to instead use 89.5 from a tower in McCook, where the group is based, with 6kW/102m (class C3). The station would remain licensed to Culbertson.

Edge Spectrum returned the construction permit for unbuilt low-power TV station K14SY-D (Columbus). The permittee had previously sought tolling of the Jan. 10, 2022 construction deadline.

North Dakota

FideliTV returned the construction permits for unbuilt low-power TV stations K14PP-D, K17LT-D, K32KX-D, and K33ML-D (Fargo). The permittee had previously sought tolling of the Jan. 10, 2022 construction deadlines.

Future station KQYZ/99.1 (Emerado) applied to modify its construction permit from 6kW to 100W, the minimum power allowed for a full-power FM station.

Wisconsin

Byrne Acquisition Group ION affiliate WIFS/57.1 (Janesville-Madison) reported that it has resumed broadcasting at fully-licensed power of 175kW after replacing its mask filter.

Radio Plus Bay Cities’ WMAM/570 (Marinette) applied to relocate its transmitter to escape from flooding problems at its longtime site along the Menominee River. It would co-locate with sister station WHYB/103.7 at a tower southwest of town, reducing its daytime power from 250 to 180 Watts non-directional. It would continue to use 100 Watts non-directional at night.

Edge Spectrum returned the license of low-power TV station W02CF/W17EG-D (Minocqua), which had previously broadcast in analog on channel 2 and had a construction permit for digital operations on channel 17. The licensee had previously sought tolling of the Jan. 10, 2022 construction deadline.
