As the Green Bay Packers change their Milwaukee flagship station, the team has announced several new affiliates — including some near Milwaukee.
iHeartMedia’s “97.3 The Game” (WRNW Milwaukee) will be the new flagship after the team ended its 92-year relationship with Good Karma’s WTMJ/620.
The newly-announced affiliates include:
- Magnum’s WRJN/1400 (Racine) and its FM translators, W260CV/99.9 (Racine) and W251BU/98.1 (Kenosha)
- Midwest’s “94.3 Jack FM” (WYDR Neenah-Menasha-Fox Cities)
- Central Wisconsin Broadcasting’s “107.5 The Rock” (WCCN-FM Neillsville)
- Q Media Group’s WCMP/1350 and W293DA/106.5 (Pine City, MN), which reach Burnett County (update: WCMP actually began carrying the Packers last season but was included in this season’s announcement)
WRJN operates under the umbrella of Milwaukee-market stations. A WRJN news release indicates the team reached out to the station about affiliating.
“We’re delighted the Magnum family accepted our invitation to have WRJN join the Packers Radio Network inking a multi-year deal,” Jon Schweitzer of the Packers Radio Network was quoted as saying.
WRJN morning show host Mike Clemens is a longtime Packers reporter and has his own office at Lambeau Field.
In Green Bay, Midwest’s WIXX/101.1 carries the games. Midwest’s WTAQ/1360 (Green Bay) and WTAQ-FM/97.5 (Glenmore-Green Bay) had previously carried the games alongside WIXX but dropped them several years ago. (This sentence has been changed to correct the timing of WTAQ’s affiliation.)
The team’s announcement of the new affiliates assured fans that the sound of the broadcasts will not change since the Packers have managed the radio network in-house since 2018 and Wayne Larrivee and Larry McCarren will continue to call the games.
“97.3 The Game WRNW and iHeartMedia Milwaukee offers an attractive demographic opportunity to reach new listeners with its growing sports talk radio format and other programming formats in the Milwaukee area. Additionally, the partnership offers a variety of new platforms that will support key Packers initiatives, including iHeartMedia’s new audio partnership with the NFL which features podcast distribution,” the news release said.
It also left open the possibility that more affiliates may be added before the season begins.
