Civic Media Buys Milwaukee-Market Liberal Talker

Posted on November 2, 2022 by Jon Ellis

The current minority shareholder in the Milwaukee market’s Liberal Talk outlet will become the station’s majority owner under a transaction filed for approval with the FCC.

WAUK/540 (Jackson-Milwaukee) and W266DR/101.1 (Waukesha) are currently owned by WAUK Radio LLC, which is held 80% by Michael Crute and 20% by Sage Weil.

The stations are being sold to Civic Media, which has a structure of Weil holding 90% and Crute holding 10%. The transaction carries a purchase price of $775,668.

Civic Media owns, or is in the process of buying, eight AM stations, three full-power FM stations, and seven FM translators around Wisconsin in six transactions announced since July. Liberal Talk formats have launched on ten of the signals.

Crute also owns 66.25% of New WTTN LLC, which programs a Liberal Talk format on Good Karma Broadcasting’s WTTN/1580 (Columbus) and W224EG/92.7 (Madison).
