Civic Media has launched its Liberal Talk lineup on a Green Bay-area AM station and FM translator following its purchase of those signals and two others.
Civic closed on its purchase of WGBW/1590 (Denmark), W250CV/97.9 (Green Bay), WLAK/1520 (New Holstein), and W230DA/93.9 (New Holstein) from Mark Heller and Metro North Communications on Tuesday, January 17.
In a news release, Civic said WGBW’s studio is now located in the CityDeck Landing building in downtown Green Bay, where it plans live music broadcasts in the summer. WGBW’s lineup will include local music with Max Ink Radio on the weekends.
“We believe radio has a crucial role to play in helping local communities stay connected,” Civic Media CEO Sage Weil said in the news release.
Heller announced the sale to fans of WGBW’s Facebook page last week, wishing the new owners the best.
WGBW, WLAK, and their translators had previously carried a True Oldies format.
W230DA has a construction permit to change frequency to 96.5 and move its transmitter closer to Appleton. WLAK is expected to change its callsign to WVXN, according to an FCC filing. Listeners report that WLAK is still carrying Oldies with announcements that something new is coming soon.
Civic’s Liberal Talk network also includes an FM signal in Oshkosh and AM stations in Berlin and suburban Milwaukee that can also be heard during the day in northeastern Wisconsin.
