Programming Plans Announced for Several Civic Media Stations

Posted on February 20, 2023January 30, 2024 by Jon Ellis

Civic Media has announced that it will carry music formats on some of its recently-acquired stations and News/Talk/Sports on others.

In a news release announcing the purchase of seven signals from Magnum Media, reported here separately, Civic announced programming plans for the Magnum stations as well as a few others.

Stations that will carry Civic’s News/Talk/Sports lineup include:

  • WLXR/1490 (La Crosse), which currently carries Oldies
  • WRJN/1400 (Racine) and its FM translators, W260CV/99.9 (Racine) and W251BU/98.1 (Kenosha), which currently run Classic Hits as part of an information-based format
  • W228EP/93.5 (Eau Claire), which will be fed by an HD2 signal
  • WBZH/910 (Hayward), which will be known as “The Buzz of the North”

Meanwhile, several stations will carry music formats:

  • WEZY/105.7 (Chippewa Falls-Eau Claire), which runs an Adult Contemporary format, will change back to WCFW. The callsign is currently placed on Magnum’s Kewaunee station.
  • A format known as “The Vixen” will air on WVXN/1520 (New Holstein) and translators on 96.5 in Appleton and 102.5 in Oshkosh.
  • “Max FM” will continue to air on WRPQ/740 (Baraboo) and translators on 99.7 in Baraboo and 103.7 in Reedsburg.

In the news release, Civic’s Mike Crute said the most recent acquisitions came after months of meetings with Dave Magnum.

Civic CEO Sage Weil said the stations will “provide listeners with local and regional news and commentary that is factual, fair, and trusted by the community.”

“We are leaning into hometown radio where other network operators are not, and we look forward to building strong relationships with listeners across the state by providing content that is relevant to their local communities,” Weil said.
