Milwaukee-based Christian network VCY America has launched on KVPC/97.9 (Rapid City).
As reported here previously, VCY bought the station, formerly KTPT, from Bethesda Christian Broadcasting after Bethesda sold its other two stations to the University of Northwestern-St. Paul. KTPT had carried a Worship format and went silent last year after Northwestern closed on its purchase of the other stations.
VCY’s website says KVPC returned to the air on Feb. 28 as the 60th station carrying VCY America’s “Christian Information Radio” lineup. It’s the network’s first station in western South Dakota.
KVPC has the near-maximum coverage area for an FM station with a 100kW/579m facility transmitting from Terry Peak plus a 3.9kW on-frequency booster in Rapid City. The frequency has carried Christian programming since it signed on in 1968.
