Posted on April 7, 2023 by Jon Ellis

People

David Lee has taken the helm as general manager of WUWM/89.7 (Milwaukee). A news release states Lee comes from a background in the Milwaukee nonprofit sector.

The Nebraska Rural Radio Association has closed on its purchase of “K-Bear Country” (KBRY/92.3 Sargent-Broken Bow) and named Adam Smith as the station’s operations manager. Smith had previously worked at NRRA flagship KRVN for 24 years. “I’m excited to now have the chance to continue working for a broadcast organization of the NRRA’s caliber while returning to my Custer County roots,” Smith said in a news release. KBRY has also added programming from the NRRA’s Rural Radio Network.

Allen Media NBC affiliate KWWL/7 (Waterloo) announced that Elizabeth Klinge is joining the station as evening co-anchor. Klinge grew up in the market, graduated from the University of Iowa, and worked at two Des Moines stations before her most recent job in California.

Anchor Alexandra Burnley announced her departure from Red River’s FOX 21 (KQDS-TV Duluth) as she moves to a new opportunity in Arkansas.

Anchor Laura Lee has announced plans to leave Hubbard ABC affiliate KAAL/6 (Austin-Rochester) at the end of April.

Country Insider reported that Chris Carter has returned to KTWB/92.5 (Sioux Falls) as morning co-host.

“Q106” (WWQM/106.3 Middleton-Madison) announced that Kristina Carlyle will join the “Fish with Friends” morning show on April 17.

“Z102.9” (KZIA Cedar Rapids) has added “Those Girls in the Afternoon,” with former evening host Destiny Loney joining afternoon host Taylor Martensen.

Stations and companies

Duluth public radio station “The North 103.3” (WDSE-FM) has added “Northland Afternoon” with new host Shane German. The new local program runs from 3 to 6 except Wednesdays and Fridays, when existing local programming continues in the 5:00 hour. “The World Café” moves to an earlier 1 to 3 timeslot, replacing local music programming at that time.

Gray TV’s NBC15 (WMTV Madison) has extended its 11 a.m. newscast to an hour.

NextTV reports that CBS affiliates have returned to streaming service FuboTV. Most non-O&O stations had left after turning down the initial compensation deal that the network had negotiated for affiliates.

The New York Times reported on the issue of non-compete clauses in local broadcast media, centering the report on two employees of a La Crosse station and response from the station’s general manager.
