RadioInsight notes that Northwestern Media’s KTIS-FM/98.5 (Minneapolis) topped the Nielsen Audio average quarter hour shares in the April 2023 book, which is the first time the non-commercial Contemporary Christian station has placed first. It’s notable that in many months over the past several years, only two of the five top stations in Minneapolis have been traditional commercial music radio formats, with Minnesota Public Radio News outlet KNOW/91.1 and iHeartMedia Sports station “The Fan” (KFXN-FM/100.3) frequently appearing in the top five along with KTIS-FM.
Tegna NBC affiliate KARE 11 (Minneapolis) has won a Peabody Award for its investigative series, “The Gap: Failure to Treat, Failure to Protect.” Judges wrote that the series “exemplifies the best of enterprising local journalism.” KARE was the only local media outlet to win a Peabody, with other awards going to networks and national programs.
Winners for overall excellence in the RTDNA Murrow Awards for Region 5 include Hearst’s KCCI/8 (Des Moines) and Siouxland Public Media (KWIT/90.3 Sioux City).
North Dakota’s BEK TV announced that it will carry nearly 100 Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks games.
Forum’s Sioux Falls Live reported in its weekly newsletter that its KSFL-TV/36.1 will carry the Summit League Baseball Tournament. As noted in previous Weekly Logs, the recently-acquired station is also simulcasting Dom Izzo’s morning sports talk show from Fargo and carries the ION network at other times.
Pioneer PBS (KWCM/10 Appleton and KSMN/20 Worthington) says a construction crew cut its power and fiber optics, impacting all of its transmissions. The notice was first posted to the station’s Facebook page on May 11 and still appeared on its website a week later.

The Star Tribune reports that Alix Kendall is reducing her hours at FOX-owned-and-operated KMSP/9 (Minneapolis), but will continue to anchor the 7 and 9 a.m. hours.
The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association announced that its Media Technology Institute will be named after the late broadcaster Duke Wright, who left an endowment to the institute.
Minnesota Public Radio announced that Isaac Thompson has been elected to its board of trustees, while Twin Cities PBS announced that Daniel E. Stoltz has been elected to its board.
Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Nebraska) and Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) are part of a bipartisan group of lawmakers sponsoring the AM for Every Vehicle Act, which would prevent auto manufacturers from dropping AM radio from new vehicles.
