True Oldies Channel Moves Ahead of Southern Iowa Sale

Posted on July 5, 2023January 30, 2024 by Jon Ellis

A radio group in southern Iowa has moved the True Oldies Channel ahead of the sale of its current affiliate.

Previously heard on KEDB/105.3 (Chariton), the syndicated Oldies service is now running on KCOG/1400 (Centerville) and its FM translator, K208GY/103.9. KCOG/K208GY had previously carried a Hot Adult Contemporary format.

Edwin Brand’s Honey Creek Broadcasting has a pending agreement to sell KEDB to Des Moines-based St. Gabriel Communications, which operates the Iowa Catholic Radio network.

KCOG, owned by Brand’s KCOG Inc., operates alongside Honey Creek’s Country-formatted KMGO/98.7 (Centerville).

In a recent report on the sale and the format change, the Ottumwa Post noted that KMGO is running an announcement stating that proceeds from the KEDB sale will be used to construct KMGO’s new 100kW/321m facility near Melrose.

As previously reported here in FCC Monitor reports, filings indicate KMGO is temporarily operating with 19.5kW/124m after a 2016 lightning strike damaged its licensed 100kW facility in Centerville.
