The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.
Manitoba
The CRTC granted new extensions to the CBC for upgrades to CBWF-FM/90.9 and CKSB-4-FM/99.9 (Flin Flon), a project which will include moving CKSB-4-FM to 92.7. The CBC says supply issues and a lengthy approval process from the tower owner have delayed construction. The new deadlines are Aug. 1, 2024.
Minnesota
Gabriel Media’s KSKK/1070 (Verndale) reported that it has been operating at an unspecified reduced power since June 20 because of a major hardware fault in the transmitter. KSKK normally transmits with 10kW day and 5kW night.
Educational Media Foundation “K-Love” translators K249ED/97.7 (Albertville-Nowthen) and K221ES/92.1 (Albertville) noted that they have again changed the source of their programming to the HD4 signal of KQQL/107.9. K249ED transmits from the KQQL tower in the north metro exurb of Nowthen and K221ES relays K249ED.
Nebraska
Sinclair Broadcast Group’s KHGI/13.1 (Kearney) has completed a move to UHF, transmitting with 1,000kW on RF channel 18.
MyBridge Radio’s K282AX/104.3 (Paxton) was granted a construction permit to move its transmitter east to a site near Sutherland, remaining 99 Watts.
Southern Cultural Foundation was granted the callsign KVJR for its future station on 89.9 in Crawford.
Following up on a report in a recent Weekly Log that it would be going silent, Nebraska Public Media’s K209FS/89.7 (Columbus) informed the FCC that it went off the air July 6 due to its licensed tower site being dismantled. The network says it is pursuing plans to relocate the translator.
South Dakota
The University of Northwestern-St. Paul’s K220IT/91.9 (Watertown) reported that it’s operating at 58% of its licensed 250 Watts due to transmitter problems.
