Western Wisconsin Radio Duo Sold to Station Employees

Posted on September 18, 2023 by Jon Ellis

A company owned by employees of the Black River Falls, Wis., radio stations is buying them from their longtime family owner.

WWIS/1260 and WWIS-FM/99.7 announced Monday, July 18, that G&G Media Services LLC is buying the station from Dan Smith, whose parents Robert and Dorothy Smith bought the stations in 1968.

G&G is a partnership of Mary and Tom Gerdes and Robert “Gabby” and Cheryl Gabrielson. Mary Gerdes is the station’s general manager and “Gabby” Gabrielson is vice president; the two also work in sales and co-host “The Buyline.”

The purchase price was not disclosed and the deal has not yet appeared in the FCC database as of Monday evening.

WWIS-FM carries a Classic Country format as “The Star” while WWIS/1260 and its FM translator, W287CT/105.3, runs a broad mix of Oldies and Adult Contemporary as “The Hill.”

Black River Falls is on I-94 between Tomah and Eau Claire; the larger La Crosse radio stations also reach the area.
