Corus Entertainment’s “[email protected]” (CJGV-FM Winnipeg) has dismissed its airstaff and says a “whole new sound” is coming to Winnipeg.
The announcement, first reported by RadioInsight, was made in a Facebook post on Monday, Sept. 25, that had only three interactions within 24 hours.
The post says the station has said goodbye to Tom McGouran, Colleen Rusholme, and Frank Andrews. McGouran had joined the station less than three months ago.
99.1 has gone through several formats, callsigns, and identities in its 20-year history. The “Peggy” brand launched in December 2016 after a month of Christmas music; the station also went All-Christmas in 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
“Peggy” first launched as an Adult Contemporary format heavy on ’80s gold. The playlist evolved and is now a broad mix of hits from the 1970s to the early 2000s, with a continued emphasis on the ’80s.
The station competes with several others that play hits from the same decades.
Corus also owns News/Talk station CJOB/680, Rocker “Power 97” (CJKR-FM/97.5), and Global TV station CKND-TV/9.
