Weekly Log: New Mpls. TV Channel; Milwaukee Anchor Changes

CBS O&O WCCO-TV (Minneapolis) has added the Nosey network on channel 4.5. The network airs reruns of tabloid talk shows from hosts such as Maury Povich and Steve Wilkos.

Hearst ABC affiliate WISN-TV/12 (Milwaukee) announced that longtime anchor Joyce Garbaciak will step away from the anchor desk at the end of May but will continue as a as a contributing correspondent. The station also announced that Diana Gutiérrez, who already co-anchors the 10 p.m. newscast, will be the new co-anchor at 6 p.m.

Mitch Keegan, news director at Gray CBS/FOX/NBC affiliate KEYC/KMNF-LD (Mankato), announced the recent hirings of Kendall Larson as a multi-media journalist, Lauren Weidenhamer as a morning reporter, meteorologist Daniel Sawicki, content producer Ashley Opina, and future lifestyle host Nataliya Oliynyk.

With baseball season just getting underway, Sinclair/Diamond Sports’ Bally Sports North is no longer available on Comcast/Xfinity and Midco. Both providers are telling customers that Diamond Sports declined several options for continued carriage, according to the Star Tribune and Valley News Live. Meanwhile, DirecTV announced a new agreement to carry Bally Sports.

University of Wisconsin Athletics and Badger Sports Properties announced that Good Karma’s “100.5 ESPN” (WTLX Monona-Madison) and WTMJ/620 (Milwaukee) will air UW women’s volleyball. UW also announced a five-year extension with iHeartMedia to air football, basketball, and hockey on stations in Madison and Milwaukee.

The Michigan Association of Broadcasters notes that WUPN/95.1 (Paradise-Sault Ste. Marie) is now simulcasting with WSBX/94.5 (Mackinac City). The change means WUPN continues to run a Classic Hits format but is now known as “Bridge FM,” replacing “Eagle Radio.”

Nebraska Public Media general manager/CEO Mark Leonard announced that he is postponing his retirement, originally scheduled for June 30, by three months to ensure a smooth transition as the search for his successor continues.

Harry Pappas, CEO of Pappas Telecasting Companies, has died at the age of 78. His obituary notes that Pappas Telecasting at one time owned 30 TV stations, including several in Nebraska and Iowa.

Weigel Broadcasting announced plans to launch “MeTV Toons,” which will run on over-the-air channels and free streaming platforms starting June 25. The network is an extension of the classic cartoon programming that airs on Weigel’s MeTV.
