The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.
Iowa
The FCC has dismissed Des Moines Community Broadcasting’s application for a new low-power FM station on 104.7 in Des Moines. In a letter, the FCC notes that the applicant was not incorporated until almost two months after it filed an application certifying that it is a non-profit educational organization.
Weigel Broadcasting’s KDIT-LD/17 (Fort Dodge) reported that it went off the air April 17 due to transmitter failure.
Minnesota
AddiEun Foundation was granted the callsign KBOR-LP for its future low-power FM station on 94.1 in Plymouth.
Hubbard Radio’s K235BP/94.9 (Bemidji) reports that it went off the air April 19 due to non-renewal of the lease at the current licensed transmitter site. The station’s request for special temporary authority to remain silent says it is looking for a new site.
Nebraska
Flood Communications’ KFDY-LD (Lincoln) has completed a move from channel 27 to 34, which included an upgrade from 3.35kW to 15kW. The change is due to the impending move of KUON-TV (Lincoln) from RF channel 12 to 27.
The FCC formally approved an application from Legacy Communications’ KRGI/1430 (Grand Island) to reduce its nighttime power to 21 Watts non-directional, remaining 5kW daytime. As noted in previous FCC Monitor reports, the station is licensed for 1kW directional at night but has had special temporary authority to use 250 Watts non-directional at night since 2017.
South Dakota
Gray TV’s KPRY-DT/4.1 (Pierre) reported that it is operating at reduced power of 8.5kW, rather than its licensed 311kW, due to a partial transmitter failure. It requested special temporary authority to continue transmitting at the reduced power level.
Prairie Winds Broadcasting’s K253AB/98.5 (Aberdeen) has applied to move from its present site east of town to the KSDN/KGIM tower site just south of town, improving its signal to the community. It would remain 250 Watts. K253AB is a translator of KGIM/1420.
Wisconsin
Civic Media’s WZBU/1520 (New Holstein) reports that it went off the air April 25 due to problems at the transmitter site.
L.D.F. Business Development Corp. was granted the callsign WLDF for its future station on 92.9 in Lac du Flambeau. The station’s request included a confirmation from the U.S. Coast Guard that the callsign is no longer being used by the vessel Sag River, O.N.
The FCC approved callsign changes for Roseland Broadcasting’s WPVS-LD (Milwaukee) to WWMW-LD and W17ET-D (Verona) to WMWI-LD.
