Weekly Log: Two Minnesota TV Reporters Departing

Posted on May 23, 2025May 22, 2025 by Jon Ellis

Reporter Kirsten Mitchell announced she is leaving WCCO-TV/4.1 (Minneapolis) for a job outside of news.

Reporter Kenny Johnson announced he is leaving Hubbard’s WDIO/10.1 (Duluth) for a new job in Colorado.

Skyview Networks announced that Donna Valentine and Steve Patterson, based at Hubbard’s “myTalk 107.1” (KTMY Coon Rapids-Minneapolis), are now being syndicated as a weekday show. The first affiliate is Hubbard’s WREW/94.9 (Fairfield-Cincinnati), which is carrying “Donna & Steve” in mornings. The team first entered national syndication as a weekend show a few months ago.

Chicago-based Moody Radio announced that it is switching to a national programming model, meaning that its stations will carry national network feeds instead of a mix of local and national programming. RadioInsight reports this means the end of eight regional morning shows, including on WDLM-FM/89.3 (East Moline-Quad Cities).

Ten Chicago Sky WNBA games will be carried on regional broadcast stations this season, including Gray’s WMTV/15.1 and 15.2 (Madison) and Tegna’s WQAD/8.3 (Moline-Quad Cities). Additionally, four games will be carried on Weigel’s WMLW-TV/49.1 (Racine-Milwaukee). 30 games are airing on Weigel’s WCIU/26.1 (Chicago).

KWWL/7.1 (Waterloo) reported that former news anchor Tom Petersen has died at 83. Petersen served as KWWL’s evening anchor for most of the 1970s.

This year’s RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award winners for overall excellence include Hearst’s WISN-TV/12.1 (Milwaukee), Gray’s WMTV/15.1 (Madison), Hearst’s KCCI/8.1 (Des Moines), and Audacy’s WCCO/830 (Minneapolis). Best newscast winners included WISN-TV, WMTV, Minnesota Public Radio, and iHeart’s WHO/1040 (Des Moines).
