Weekly Log: Sinclair Switches Provider of Des Moines Newscast

Posted on January 9, 2026January 12, 2026 by Jon Ellis

Hearst CBS affiliate KCCI/8 (Des Moines) is now supplying a 9 p.m. newscast for Sinclair FOX affiliate KDSM/17, replacing Nexstar NBC affiliate WHO-DT/13 in producing the newscast. As noted a few weeks ago, WHO-DT has continued the 9 p.m. newscast as a streaming-only program. The change marks an expansion of a 9 p.m. newscast that had already been airing for years on KCCI’s MeTV channel.

Nexstar NBC affiliate WHO-DT/13 (Des Moines) has promoted Katie Kaplan to 4 p.m. anchor.

Meteorologist Jennifer McDermed announced plans to depart FOX O&O KMSP/9 (Minneapolis).

Allen Media has promoted Caroline Bach to regional news director of its Wisconsin stations, ABC affiliates WKOW/27 (Madison), WAOW/9 (Wausau), WQOW/18 (Eau Claire), and WXOW/19 (La Crosse). The move comes after former WKOW ND Dani Maxwell was promoted to Allen Media’s national news director.

Civic Media has launched a new morning show on its News/Talk stations following the departure of Pat Kreitlow. “Civic Media Mornings” is hosted by Brian Noonan and Civic Media News/Talk Manager Jamie Martinson and airs from 6 to 8 a.m. on a half-dozen Civic News/Talk stations in Appleton/Oshkosh, Wausau, Eau Claire, La Crosse, Hayward, Madison, and Richland Center. Most of the stations are now also running an hour of Rick Smith’s syndicated show at 8 a.m.

As first reported by RadioInsight, iHeartMedia’s “B97.3” (WRNW Milwaukee) has hired two former “B93.3” (WLDB) hosts, Joe Krauss and Tony Lorino. (Correction: B97.3’s website indicates Lorino is hosting afternoons, not co-hosting mornings as had been originally reported here.)

The Star Tribune profiled Tom Oszman’s TCMediaNow, which has now been posting vintage recordings of Twin Cities TV stations on YouTube for more than a decade.
