Newer Music Reaches Nebraska’s “Island” Following Sale

Posted on May 1, 2026May 1, 2026 by Jon Ellis

“107.7 The Island” (KSYZ-FM Grand Island) has switched to newer music following its recent ownership change.

Previously a Classic Hits-heavy Variety Hits format, KSYZ is now running an Adult Contemporary playlist retaining its “Island” moniker. The new playlist is positioned as “a feel-good escape…from the ‘90s to right now.”

The April 25 change came a few weeks after Usher Media closed on its purchase of KSYZ and four other Tri-Cities stations from NRG Media.

Usher also owns the market’s Contemporary Hits station, “Hits 106” (KQKY/105.9 Kearney).

KSYZ’s change is the fifth format flip by a Tri-Cities station this year following four moves by stations owned by Legacy Communications:

  • K259CZ/99.7 and KRGI-FM-HD3 (Grand Island) switched to Contemporary Christian as “Jett FM.”
  • KMTY/97.7 (Gibbon) switched to a Sports Talk/Rock hybrid as “The Zone.”
  • KKJK/103.1 (Ravenna) switched from Contemporary Hits to Classic Country as “KJ Country.”
  • K278BR/103.5 and KRGI-FM-HD4 (Grand Island) switched from Classic Country to Classic Hip-Hop as “Mix 103.5.”

The latest flip leaves Flood Communications’ “98-9 The Vibe” (KKPR-FM Kearney) has the sole Classic Hits station in the market.
