Civic Media Buys Northern Wisconsin Duo

Posted on June 7, 2023 by Jon Ellis

Civic Media continues its rapid growth with the purchase of a pair of stations in northern Wisconsin.

An asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC indicates Civic has reached a $210,000 deal to buy WCQM/98.3 (Park Falls), WPFP/980 (Park Falls), and WPFP translator W276DJ/103.1 (Park Falls) from the Marks family’s Park Falls Broadcasting Corporation.

WCQM is “98Q Country” while WPFP and W276DJ carry the syndicated Variety Hits “Jack FM” format.

Madison-based Civic owns 13 AM stations, four full-power FM stations, and 14 FM translators in Wisconsin, all of which it purchased within the last year. Civic’s News/Talk network runs on 11 of the AM stations and most of the FM translators, while the full-power FM stations carry music formats.

Civic Media is headed by CEO Sage Weil, who owns 90% of the company. The other 10% is held by Mike Crute, who is President and COO.

Marks’ companies, built by the late Stephen Marks, own no other stations in Wisconsin but have numerous TV and radio holdings in Michigan, Montana, and North Dakota.
