Two public radio stations in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula have added a daily news and public affairs program originating in the Lower Peninsula.
WNMU/90.1 (Marquette) is airing “Stateside” at 10 p.m., with a rebroadcast at 5 a.m., while WGGL/91.1 (Houghton) is airing the program at 8 p.m. The program is heard live at 3 p.m. on seven stations in the Lower Peninsula including its originating station, Michigan Radio.
“We are excited to bring Stateside to listeners across the Upper Peninsula. For the first time, our new audiences in the U.P. will be able to hear the stories from across the state that Stateside presents each weekday,” said Stephen Schram, Executive Director & General Manager of Michigan Radio, in a news story posted on the station’s website. “Anchored by our experienced and engaging journalist April Baer, Stateside helps listeners make sense of events and issues affecting their lives here in Michigan.”
WNMU is owned by Northern Michigan University and operated alongside PBS station WNMU-TV/13. It carries a mix of NPR News, Classical, and Jazz.
WGGL is owned by Minnesota Public Radio but carries only nationally-syndicated programs rather than MPR’s state networks. The lineup includes NPR News/Talk shows during the day and Classical 24, which originates at MPR, overnight and for several hours in the afternoon.
