Longtime Twin Cities radio personality and voiceover talent Dan Culhane passed away over the weekend at the age of 62.
Culhane’s wife, Nancy Mitchell, said he had suffered a COVID-19-induced stroke. Culhane had two children and two grandchildren.
Culhane had worked in the Twin Cities since the 1980s and was most recently the production director for Entercom’s stations, WCCO/830, 102.9 The Wolf, and 104.1 Jack FM. RadioTapes.com has posted a collection of airchecks.
But most people probably knew his voice without knowing who he was, since Culhane did voice work for dozens of clients including Macy’s, Pizza Hut, and the Minnesota Vikings, with his voice heard on radio and TV stations around the region.
Earlier, Culhane was working at KQRS when the station hired Tom Barnard in 1986. Barnard paid tribute to Culhane on his show Monday, saying, “you couldn’t meet a nicer guy than Dan Culhane.”
Barnard also did an interview about Culhane with WCCO’s Chad Hartman that was later included in this news report:
A personal note: Dan was a graduate of UW-Superior, the same place I went to school. He returned to visit KUWS and offered to do some free voice work, and he never said no when we kept asking for more and more. He even sent some fully-produced promos. Here’s a very small sample of some of the items he generously recorded:
Based on the outpouring of messages on Facebook following news of Dan’s death, he helped many. Thanks Dan.
