FCC/CRTC Monitor: New Neb. FM Signing On; McCook Station Returns

Posted on May 29, 2023January 30, 2024 by Jon Ellis

The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.

Iowa

As noted in a report on a different purchase, St. Gabriel Communications closed on its purchase of KDLS-FM/105.5 (Perry-Des Moines) from Latin Broadcasting Company on May 19.

Manitoba

The CRTC approved Pattison Media’s purchase of CKLQ/880 (Brandon), CKLQ-FM/91.5 (Brandon), and CKLF-FM/94.7 (Brandon) from Westman Communications. In response to an intervention, Pattison committed to continued coverage of local news, sports, weather, and events and said it strongly believes in serving the market with local personnel.

Michigan

Aurora Media’s W280GB/103.9 (Escanaba) applied to move its transmitter from its present site in Gladstone to a tower northwest of Escanaba, remaining 250 Watts. It will relay the HD2 signal of WYKX/104.7 (Escanaba).

W275CR/102.9 (Hurley, WI), which relays WHRY/1450 (Hurley), reported that it completed a move of its transmitter from the WHRY transmitter site south of Hurley to the tower site of WUPM/106.9 (Ironwood). The move adds coverage of Bessemer and Wakefield.

Nebraska

My Bridge Radio closed on its purchase of KNGN/1360 (McCook) and K252FV/98.3 (McCook) on May 22 and reported that the stations returned to the air on the same day.

Meanwhile, My Bridge submitted a license to cover application for KXNG/91.3 (Lexington). A filing of this type indicates a station has been constructed as authorized. The construction permit calls for 57kW/109m directional (class C1) from a tower adjacent to the one used by My Bridge’s KHZY/99.3 (Overton-Lexington). A legal ID indicates KXNG carries My Bridge Radio Español.

North Dakota

Roseland Broadcasting’s KXBK-LD/15 (Bismarck) was granted an upgrade from 800 Watts to 15kW.

South Dakota

Educational Media Foundation’s K204EO/88.7 (Yankton) requested an extension of special temporary authority to remain silent after being displaced by co-owned KLYA/88.7 (Yankton) last fall. The new filing says EMF has determined that it plans to move K204EO to a new tower.

Wisconsin

Midwest Communications’ WDKF/99.7 (Sturgeon Bay-Green Bay) reported that it has been operating at an unspecified reduced power since May 18 due to transmitter failure.

Civic Media reported that W297CU/107.3 (Amery) went off the air May 16 due to a technical issue that is still being investigated. As previously noted here, W297CU has a construction permit to move from its present site on the WZEZ tower north of Turtle Lake to a tower northwest of Amery along U.S. Highway 8.
