A future FM radio station that had originally been allotted for southeastern Wyoming would instead transmit from the Nebraska panhandle under an application filed by its winning bidder.
Victor A Michael, Jr.’s Michael Radio Company won the allotment for 104.3 at Albin, Wyoming, the recent FCC auction.
Instead of building it at Albin, Michael has applied to have the station transmit from Kimball, Nebraska, and be licensed to Dix, which is just east of Kimball. The proposed facility is 26kW/40m (class C2).
Kimball County, which has a population of about 3,600 people, currently has no radio licenses. It receives several rimshot signals from Scottsbluff and Sidney.
Michael’s Laramie Mountain Broadcasting was the last owner of KIMB/1260 (Kimball), which went silent in 2014 due to technical difficulties and never returned to the air. Kimball was also the community of license for what is now KYOY/92.3 (Hillsdale, WY)
Michael owns or is in the process of buying a half-dozen stations and numerous translators in the West and Pennsylvania.
