The Christensen family, a longtime owner of radio stations in Pipestone, Minn., is buying four regional stations from Connoisseur Media.
The deal includes “K101” (KLQL/101.1 Luverne, Minn.), KQAD/800 (Luverne), “Jammin’ Country” (KJAM-FM/103.1 Madison, S.D.), and KJAM/1390 (Madison). Both FM stations carry Country formats while the AM stations carry Classic Hits.
The sales were filed in two separate transactions: Christensen Broadcasting Luv LLC will buy the Luverne stations for $275,000 while Christensen Broadcast Group, Inc. will buy the Madison stations for $150,000.
Christensen Broadcasting LLC’s existing stations include Country/Farm station KLOH/1050 (Pipestone), Classic Hits station KISD/98.7 (Pipestone), and KJOE/106.1 (Slayton). KJOE also runs several HD subchannels, one of which is relayed on FM translator K257FP/99.3 (Pipestone) with a Contemporary Christian format.
The three companies are owned by different combinations of members of the Christensen family.
KISD and KLQL have rimshot signals to Sioux Falls and also serve Worthington, while KQAD also reaches Sioux Falls and KLOH has a large daytime coverage area that includes Luverne, Madison, and Sioux Falls. The Luverne stations are officially assigned to the Sioux Falls market.
Neither KQAD nor KJAM has an FM translator.
Connoisseur acquired the Luverne and Madison stations as part of its purchase of Alpha Media earlier this year. Alpha also has groups in Redwood Falls, Mankato, Austin/Albert Lea, Brookings, and Watertown that are not included in the deal.
Elsewhere, Alpha is selling 15 stations in Missouri to an existing broadcaster in that state.
