Three Black Hills Radio Stations Sold for $75,000

Posted on March 16, 2024March 16, 2024 by Jon Ellis

Three radio stations in the Black Hills of South Dakota are being sold for $75,000.

The purchase price is specified in an asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC on March 11, calling for Mid-Century Radio LLC to buy KRKI/99.5 (Keystone-Rapid City), KFMH/101.9 (Belle Fourche-Rapid City), and KXZT/107.9 (Newell) From Bad Lands Broadcasting Company. The deal also includes booster stations KRKI-FM1 (Rapid City) and KFMH-FM1 (Rapid City).

KFMH carries a Classic Hits format as “Kool 101.9,” while KRKI and KXZT simulcast Classic Country as “True Country.”

KRKI transmits from Bear Mountain in the southern Black Hills with 100kW/224m (class C1). KFMH and KRKI both transit from Terry Peak in the northern hills, with KFMH using 100kW/454m (class C0) and KRKI using 4.8kW/455m (class C2).

The asset purchase agreement says the buyer will assume leases for the stations’ studio and transmitter sites.

Mid-Century Radio, owned by Aaron Ishmael (80%) and Karl Lieber (20%), also owns three radio licenses in Tennessee. Ishmael also has an ownership interest in companies which own more than a dozen radio stations in New York and Tennessee.

Bad Lands Broadcasting Company is owned by Northeast Digital and Wireless. The seller also holds an interest in companies that own a number of other stations in Wyoming, Colorado, and New England.
