Nexstar NBC affiliate WHO-DT/13 (Des Moines) announced that longtime anchor Erin Kiernan will depart on Nov. 24. Kiernan has been at the station for more than 20 years and worked at two other Des Moines stations prior to joining WHO-DT. Her departure was also reported by the Des Moines Register.
Scripps NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV/4 (Milwaukee) has named Karley Marotta its new sports director, which the station says marks the first time a woman has held that role in Milwaukee. Marotta previously worked in the same role for Allen Media ABC affiliate WKOW/27 (Madison).
Midwest’s “My 95.7” (KDAL-FM Duluth) is now Hot Adult Contemporary after a years-long evolution of its previous AC format towards newer songs. The new playlist is about half Hot AC currents and about half gold from the past 15 years, with a few older selections. “My 95.7” competes with Townsquare Hot AC station “Mix 108” (KBMX Proctor-Duluth). Meanwhile, Midwest’s “Hot 98” (W251CD and WDUL/970 Superior) runs a syndicated Hot AC format that features slightly fewer currents than the others.
RadioInsight reports that iHeartMedia has launched “David & Meredith In The Morning” on about 25 of its Classic Hits stations, including KGOR/99.9 (Omaha) and “Rewind 92.1” (WXXM Sun Prairie-Madison). RAMP lists other affiliates including “Leo 1360” (KMJM Cedar Rapids), “99.7 The Lake” (KOGA-FM Ogallala, Neb.), “96.1 The Fox” (KQHT Crookston-Grand Forks), and KRRZ/1390 (Minot).
Minnesota Public Radio’s “The Current” is making changes to its weekend schedule, dropping Saturday night request show “Radio Free Current” but keeping host Barb Abney in the 7 to 10 p.m. timeslot. Abney will also host Sundays from 9 p.m. to midnight. The station is also adding several hour-long programs and expanding others. A Sunday morning version of the 24-hour format “Radio Heartland” is being dropped but the service continues on the HD2 signal of KNOW/91.1.
Cumulus and Audacy announced that Infinity Sports Radio will be renamed Westwood One Sports on Dec. 29. Jim Rome, whose show is currently syndicated by Westwood One, will anchor the network’s lineup. It had been known as CBS Sports Radio up until last year.
UW-Milwaukee’s WUWM/89.7 (Milwaukee) posted an expanation to listeners after programming was first impacted by a power outage on Sunday followed by the worldwide internet issues on Monday.
PBS North (WDSE/8 Duluth) announced that Ken Buehler will host its new weekly show, “In Business with Almanac North.” The show, launching Nov. 6, will initially air Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. on “Explore” (8.2) and will repeat three times over the weekend.
This year’s Upper Midwest Emmy Awards for both overall excellence and news excellence went to Tegna NBC affiliate KARE/11 (Minneapolis). Best newscast winners included KARE, CBS O&O WCCO-TV/4 (Minneapolis), Forum ABC affiliate WDAY-TV/6 (Fargo), and Gray NBC affiliate KTIV/4 (Sioux City).
