FCC Monitor: Minn. AM Station Seeks to Reduce Daytime Power

Posted on January 5, 2026January 3, 2026 by Jon Ellis

The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.

Minnesota

Real Presence Radio’s KZJZ/106.7 (Babbitt) has been granted special temporary authority to operate at reduced power due to antenna and/or transmission line issues. The station is using 1.81kW ERP rather than its licensed 19kW ERP. The filing explains that the KZJZ transmitter site can only be accessed by traveling through an active mining site, and coordination is needed.

Gabriel Media’s KSKK/1070 (Verndale) has applied to reduce its daytime power from 10kW to 5kW non-directional. KSKK’s nighttime facility would remain 5kW directional.

Nebraska

Theatre Organ Preservation of Nebraska, owner of KEZL/89.7 (Culbertson), has proposed the allotment of channel 15 to Culbertson for a non-commercial, full-power TV license. The group proposes a station using 10kW/90m, which would cover the McCook region.

Connoisseur Media’s KKOT/93.5 (Columbus) reports in a Dec. 29 filing that it returned to full power on July 28.

North Dakota

Real Presence Radio’s KZZQ/101.9 (Richardton-Dickinson) requested special temporary authority to operate at reduced power of 2.796kW ERP, rather than its licensed 26kW, due to failed transmitter power supply modules. The reduced-power operation began Dec. 30.

Wisconsin

Allen Media’s WAOW/9.1 (Wausau) has completed an upgrade from 63.2kW to 96.3kW.
