The following are updates to stories previously reported here and smaller recent FCC filings and actions that do not merit a full story of their own at this time:
Iowa
Calvary Chapel Clarinda’s KFOM/88.7 (Stanton) went off the air Oct. 29 “because the previous site is no longer available.” The 100-Watt station has a pending application to move to a different site about a mile to the southeast.
Community Broadcasting/Bott Radio Network’s KRNQ/96.3 (Keokuk) is transmitting at reduced power of 384 Watts ERP due to failure of the main antenna. The station normally transmits with 19kW. As previously reported, KQKL/95.3 (Keokuk), which transmits from the same tower, submitted a similar filing a few days earlier.
Putbrese Communications’ KWKY/1150 (Des Moines) may be operating at reduced power due to construction work at its transmitter site. The station is licensed for 2.5kW day and 1kW night, directional, and requested special temporary authority to transmit with 25% of licensed power.
Minnesota
PBS station KSMQ-TV/15.1 (Austin) reported that it has been operating at 80% of licensed power since Dec. 1 due to a transmitter problem. It normally transmits with 319kW.
The Edge Spectrum told the FCC that K26KF-D and K35JN-D (Duluth) resumed operations on Nov. 21. They recently received special temporary authority to transmit with 100 Watts directional, with K26KF shooting east and K35JN shooting south. Programming is unknown.
Nebraska
Gray TV NBC affiliate WOWT/6.1 (Omaha) amended its earlier request for special temporary authority to say that it has further reduced power and is now transmitting with 52.5kW. WOWT is licensed for 1,000kW and had reduced to 660kW in October due to equipment failure. Its latest filing says the station anticipates getting up to 50% of licensed power by the end of December and back to full power in mid-January.
North Dakota
KMSR/1520 (Mayville) applied for a license to cover its community of license change to Northwood. The change included a slight increase in daytime power to 1.5kW to rimshot Northwood from KMSR’s existing transmitter site between Mayville and Portland. As previously reported, the change places KMSR within the Grand Forks market.
KVNJ-LP/2 (Fargo) became KCPM-LP on Nov. 26, preserving the callsign of the now-deleted KCPM/27 (Grand Forks).
Wisconsin
Word of God Fellowship/Daystar’s WDMW-LD/24 (Janesville) was granted a construction permit for what may be the final move on its hop to Milwaukee. After two stops on a journey documented here in previous FCC Monitor reports, the low-power TV station received a CP to use 15kW from a tower near Waukesha, covering the Milwaukee area. The application continues to list Janesville as the community of license though the station can no longer be received there.
The FCC formally cancelled the license of Northland College’s WRNC-LP/97.7 (Ashland) after the station did not apply for license renewal. The college had announced several years ago that the station went off the air amid budget cuts but did not return the license at that time.
Hmong Radio Broadcast LLC closed on its purchase of W277CW/103.3 (New Richmond) on Nov. 24. The translator already rebroadcasts the buyer’s WIXK/1590 (New Richmond).
