WFHR Switches to Oldies Following Launch of FM Translator

Posted on January 5, 2022 by Jon Ellis

WFHR/1320 (Wisconsin Rapids) has dropped syndicated Talk and Sports elements of its format for `60s and `70s Oldies following the launch of new FM translator W248DE/97.5.

The station continues its morning show and information programming, including a buy-and-sell show at 11 a.m.

The Oldies replace syndicated shows that had run in the afternoon, evening, and early morning. The old lineup had included Milwaukee-based Sports talk program “The Big Show,” Dave Ramsey, and CBS Sports Radio.

The new FM signal uses 250 Watts, enough to cover the Wisconsin Rapids area. It was granted during the FCC’s AM Revitalization effort to relay WFHR, which uses 5kW daytime and 89 Watts nighttime.

WFHR and its sister station, WIRI/105.5 (Nekoosa-Wisconsin Rapids), recently moved to a new building following last year’s sale of the stations to Marcus Jaeger’s Heart of Wisconsin Media.

WIRI switched from Adult Contemporary to Classic Country last year.

Wisconsin Rapids Community Media profiled the stations during an open house at their new facility:
