The FCC has dismissed a longstanding application for a new AM station in southeastern South Dakota.
Culhane Communications’ proposed station would have transmitted on 690 and been licensed to Tyndall, using 1.2kW daytime and 350 Watts nighttime from a three-tower array north of Yankton. (The frequency had previously been used by KUSD/690 Vermillion, which left the air in the early 1990’s.)
The application was originally filed in 2005, when Culhane also owned the commercial AM-FM combo in Vermillion.
The FCC’s dismissal letter says there were still unresolved issues regarding environmental compliance but that it hasn’t heard from the applicant in four years and was not able to reach the applicant, and neither were the applicant’s contact representative or consulting engineer. The application was dismissed for failure to prosecute.
