A tower site fire has taken two Marquette radio stations off the air.
WJMN-TV and WLUC-TV report that the fire happened Monday, Dec. 30, at the tower of WDMJ/1320. The fire also affected WNOA-LP/103.9, which also transmits from the site.
WDMJ is a News/Talk station owned by Sovereign Communications and simulcasts with WIAN/1240 (Ishpeming). WDMJ normally uses one tower to transmit non-directionally with 5kW day and 135 Watts night.
FCC records say WDMJ’s 268-foot tower was constructed in 1960. The station had previously used a three-tower directional array with 1kW at night, but two towers were removed in 2003.
WNOA-LP, a 100-Watt station, is owned by Northern Apostle Radio and carries Catholic programming.
