Twins Return to FM, Stay on WCCO As Well

Posted on March 3, 2020 by Jon Ellis

When the Minnesota Twins begin spring training games this weekend, they’ll be heard on both AM and FM in the Twin Cities for the first time.

The team and Entercom announced an extension through 2023 on Tuesday that will include games being simulcast on both WCCO “News/Talk 830” and Country-formatted “102.9 The Wolf” (KMNB). All spring training, regular season, and postseason games will be carried on both stations.

“We are thrilled to further extend our successful broadcast partnership with Entercom, while also bringing Twins baseball to a FM audience as a supplement to our metro flagship home on 830 WCCO,” Twins President & CEO Dave St. Peter said in a news release. “While WCCO is synonymous with Twins baseball, we are excited to ensure even greater access through our simulcast on 102.9 The Wolf. We applaud and thank Entercom leadership for their shared vision in making Twins radio broadcasts an industry leader.”

The Twins will be one of only four clubs with both AM and FM carriage in their home city. WCCO’s 50kW clear channel signal has the largest coverage area of any sole station in the state, while KMNB is one of the core 100kW FM signals in the market.

“We are proud to extend our partnership with the Twins, with the addition of game simulcasts on 102.9 The Wolf, providing a second home for the team’s fans,” Shannon Knoepke, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Entercom Minneapolis, said in a news release. “As we celebrate our 50th year of partnership with Twins baseball, we are committed to providing our listeners with premier coverage of their hometown team.”

KMNB will be just the fourth Twin Cities station to carry the Twins in the team’s 59-year history. WCCO carried the team from 1961 through 2006, and again since 2018. The team was heard on KSTP/1500 from 2007 to 2012 and on KTWN-FM/96.3 from 2013 to 2017.
