Several more FM translator signals are on the air, or will be soon, according to FCC filings:
Cumulus Media told the FCC that new FM translator W238DA/95.5 (Green Bay) is operating pursuant to construction permit program test authority. The new signal will relay WDUZ/1400. WDUZ and WDUZ-FM/107.5 (Brillion-Green Bay) mostly simulcast a Sports format as “The Fan,” though they carry separate midday syndicated programs. Both stations air Badgers football and basketball, while Badgers hockey airs only on the AM side.
Elsewhere, Wisconsin Public Radio signed on W262DD/100.3 (Janesville) carrying the Ideas Network as a translator of WHA/970 (Madison). Janesville receives the network’s News and Classical service from WERN/88.7 (Madison).
In western South Dakota, Homeslice Media Group requested program test authority for K288HB/105.5 (Sturgis), which will relay Farm/Country outlet KBHB/810 (Sturgis). The FM translator’s coverage will be limited to the immediate Sturgis area, while KBHB’s 25kW daytime signal reaches parts of five states.
All three translators are 250 Watts and were granted as part of the FCC’s AM revitalization effort.
More new FM translators are likely to come on the air in the coming months since many applications from late 2017 were granted in early 2018 and face three-year construction deadlines. Another round of applications filed in 2018 largely face deadlines later in 2021.
