“Jack” Brings Rock-Leaning Classic Hits to Central Wisconsin

Posted on September 8, 2021 by Jon Ellis

Midwest Communications has brought the “Jack FM” brand to central Wisconsin, replacing a previous Hard Rock format with a Classic Hits-based playlist that leans Rock.

The changeover of WOZZ/94.7 (Mosinee-Wausau) from “Rock 94.7” to “Jack FM,” first noted by RadioInsight, happened on Wednesday, Sept. 8. Online playlists show that Rock hits from the 1970s to 1990s dominated the format’s first day, with a few Pop artists such as Madonna and occasional recent songs such as “Uptown Funk.”

The new format primarily competes with NRG Media’s “Big Cheese 107.9” (WBCV Wausau) and Muzzy Broadcast Group’s WSPT/97.9 (Stevens Point).

WOZZ is rebroadcast on W275AC/102.9 (Wausau).

The previous “Rock 94.7” brand had launched in 2010, replacing a Classic Hits format. WOZZ is a heritage callsign from the Appleton market that was parked on 94.7 shortly before the 2010 flip.

Regionally, the “Jack FM” branding is also heard on NRG’s WRHN/100.1 (Rhinelander), which has a fringe signal to Wausau.

Midwest uses the “Jack FM” brand in several markets, including WYDR/94.3 (Neenah-Menasha-Appleton).
